Brandeis University seeks to hire a Research & Instruction Librarian & Science Liaison. As part of a collaborative team, the Research & Instruction Librarian builds relationships with faculty, students, and staff to support teaching, learning, and research on campus. The librarian serves as liaison to departments and programs in the sciences; contributes to the library’s program of workshops and course-integrated research instruction; and anticipates in collection development. In addition to providing research help services to the campus community, the librarian coordinates research help service points.

This is a union position in the SEIU Local 888 Bargaining Unit.

Key Responsibilities:

Serves as a liaison to academic departments and programs in the Division of Science:

  • Develops course-integrated information literacy and research instruction.
  • Provides in-depth research consultations. develops, maintains, evaluates, and facilitates access to relevant collections in the sciences, including both physical and digital resources.
  • Communicates regularly with faculty, staff, and students to promote library services and resources and to support teaching, learning, and research.
  • Collaborates with library colleagues, as well as campus partners such as those in the Division of Science Technology Group, to promote services, including library data/programming support and support for scholarly communications and new models of scientific publishing.

In collaboration with colleagues, actively contributes to:

  • General research help services to students, faculty, staff, and researchers.
  • Instruction for workshops and classes.
  • Special projects and outreach activities, including orientation.

Coordinates research help service points, including hiring, training, and scheduling of graduate student assistants.

Participates in and contributes to committees and work groups of the Library and the University.

Furthers knowledge in librarianship and in liaison areas through:

  • participation in professional library or subject-related organizations and committees.  
  • attending, participating in, or contributing to conferences, webinars, and other types of professional development training.
  • maintaining knowledge of best practices, developments, and trends in librarianship and liaison subject areas. 

Skills & Qualifications:

Education: MLS or equivalent education & experience

Experience: 1-3 years of total related work experience

  • Experience with or demonstrated commitment to developing inclusive and equitable learning experiences
  • Experience in an academic setting that demonstrates engagement with departmental constituencies and innovative collaboration on teaching and research activities.
  • Understanding of research and teaching needs of faculty and students.
  • Facility with technologies associated with teaching and learning.
