LOCATION: The Library Center – 4653 S Campbell Avenue – Springfield, MO


SALARY: Starting salary $83,200.00 – commensurate with experience

Essential Functions
 Manages the Library’s information systems needs including computer and
telecommunications systems and support, network infrastructure, computer and
other security systems, support and maintenance for hardware and software,
acquisition and implementation of new systems and systems training
 Responsible for data storage and back-up, data security, disaster recovery and
documentation
 Ensures compliance with all related laws and regulations
 Maintains staff e-mail service, library website, internet filtering and wireless access
 Assumes supervisory responsibility for the IT department including the Web
Development and Technical/Help Desk teams setting and chairing regular
department meetings
 Provides focus on the user environment for all technologies deployed by the Library,
both internally and externally, assessing sustainability and efficiency
 Prepares, oversees and monitors the IT budget including oversight of inventory and
replacement schedules for the district, ensuring that all established procedures are
followed
 Works closely with the Integrated Library System Department and manages the
hardware associated with the Library ILS
 Develops and implements technology standards and procedures for the department
 Suggests policies and policy revisions on IT related issues in accordance with
industry best practices
 Serves on the Executive Director’s administrative team and represents the library at
meetings as assigned
 Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual departmental and statistical reports, as well
as any other reports as requested by the Director
 Exercises professional responsibility by attending conferences and workshops and
reading professional literature to keep abreast of trends and best practices within the
field of technology
 Assumes a leadership role in promoting communications and positive working
conditions with peers, subordinates, and supervisors
 Maintains positive and proactive customer service behaviors at all times and
encourages all staff to do the same
 Interprets and implements the Library’s General Conduct Policy
 Timeliness: The employee must be punctual and timely in arriving to work and
completing tasks. The employee must also be capable of working all of the hours in
their assigned shift.

 Ability to work with others and the general public: It is essential that individual who
works in this position have the ability to work and interact in a cooperative, pleasant,
and constructive manner with others.

Skills/Job Knowledge
 Extensive experience with network administration, website administration, cyber
security principles, disaster recovery, and project management
 Familiar with Microsoft Active Directory, Google Workspace, SQL and common web
design languages
 Extensive experience with Microsoft desktop and server products and network
architecture
 Knowledge of library-related technology including software for time and print
management, automation, and security and filtering systems.
 Demonstrated ability to use office productivity software
 Can define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
 Must be knowledgeable about and able to make decisions dealing with library
security, emergency procedures and conflict resolution
 Excellent, verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills including the ability
to translate technical information to a nontechnical audience
 Ability to exercise initiative, independent judgment and work productively with
minimal supervision
 Strong organizational and time management skills
 Ability to delegate appropriately
 Has a positive service attitude and the ability to deal effectively with the public and
staff in a tactful, courteous manner
Education/Experience
 Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Information Technology or Computer Science
OR Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science, specializing in technology,
from an ALA accredited library school
 Minimum of 5 years’ experience with increasing responsibilities for management
and support of information systems and information technology
 Direct supervisory experience required
Contact
 Works closely with other branch staff and department personnel
 Routine telephone and email contact with other departments and branches
 Contact with patrons and vendors

Supervision
 Supervised by the Executive Director
 Supervises the IT Staff
Physical Demands
 Performs bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing ladders, and reaching from floor
level to 6 feet in height
 Displays good coordination and mobility
 Routine lifting of materials/equipment weighing up to 25 lbs. and exerting force
occasionally up to 50 pounds
 Regular computer keyboard, desk work
 May walk or stand for significant periods of time
Working Environment
 Primarily indoors with heating and cooling regulated in a general library environment
 Occasional outdoor work may be subject to a variety of extreme weather conditions
 Occasional driving of a Library or personal vehicle
Miscellaneous Requirement
 Must pass a security background check
 Must have a valid Class E driver license, current insurance and safe driving record
