Youth Services Manager, Scarborough Public Library, Scarborough, ME

The Scarborough Public Library seeks an energetic and engaging individual to lead our Youth
Services team in providing an excellent library experience to the community’s youth and their
families. Responsible for effectively managing all functions of the Youth Services Department,
the Youth Services Manager will work directly with youth of all ages, mentor a dedicated team,
grow an excellent collection, and design and deliver innovative library programming. With
planning for a potential building expansion underway, the Youth Services Manager will build
upon the Library’s strong foundation by envisioning future services and spaces for children and
teens.
A Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program is required (degree
candidates considered) as is demonstrated knowledge of child development, materials for
children, and current trends in library services for children. Supervisory experience in or outside
the library field is highly desirable. The successful candidate must be able to work
independently in a busy environment and be comfortable working with patrons of all ages,
backgrounds, and abilities.
This is a professional, full-time, salaried position exempt from overtime pay. Schedule includes
a mix of weekday, evening, and occasional weekend hours based on the operating, staffing, and
programming needs of the Library; flexibility in scheduling is necessary.
Salary range starts at $58,531 ($28.14/hour). Salary will be determined by level of experience
and education. A generous benefits package includes: paid vacation, personal, and sick time;
medical (100% of employee’s premium currently covered), dental, life, and disability insurance;
and a 401 money purchase retirement plan (6% match) with optional 457 deferred
compensation plan (4% match).
