The Boston College Libraries seeks a Collection Development/Reference Assistant to join the collaborative team at the Theology and Ministry Library (TML). We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic about supporting students, and interested in theological library collections and research.

Working Hours

During the regular academic year, this is a Tuesday – Saturday position as follows: 

Tuesday – Friday 11am – 7pm

Saturday: 10am – 6pm

NOTE: Hours will vary during summer and University breaks.

Responsibilities:

  • Staffs the Reference Desk, providing basic research assistance to library users.
  • Coordinates serials-related activities, including: receiving, checking-in, claiming (if necessary), and displaying of new journal issues; shifting journals from the Reading Room to the bound journals stacks according to schedule; and, should serials binding resume post-pandemic, managing all aspects of serials binding.
  • Works closely with New Testament Abstracts (NTA) editorial staff to maintain smooth workflows for journal donation, acquisition, and use, and in the processing of monograph donations.
  • Supervises student employees and oversees Access Services on Saturdays during the regular academic year.
  • Purchases library collection materials with assigned purchasing card (P-Card) and conducts initial P-Card monthly reconciliation with related bank statement.
  • Collaborates with other staff on social media outreach activities, assisting with the coordination of posts and planning thematic content development.
  • Corresponds with students, faculty, and staff of the School of Theology and Ministry (STM) and St. John’s Seminary (SJS) in matters related to research support and the library’s collections.
  • Develops book displays, web-based research guides, and other resources to highlight the library’s collection.
  • Reports to the Senior Research Librarian/Bibliographer at the TML.
