Digitization Assistant, Harvard Law School Library Digital Lab, Cambridge, MA

The Harvard Law School Library has an immediate opening for one 14-hour per week position. The Digitization Assistant will assist with digital collections development, metadata creation and enrichment, and the processing and digitization of modern manuscript collections using the library’s new integrated appraisal workflow. The Digitization Assistant will also undertake other collection management tasks, such as inventory control and materials transport, and assist with in-house scanning of special collections materials to fulfill researcher and reference requests.  

The person in this role will report to the Librarian/Archivist for Digital Projects and work in close collaboration with the other Digital Lab staff. The position entails working with materials across HLSL collections including rare and fragile items. Core duties include preparing materials for digital imaging, inventory tracking, digital photography with a Zeutschel Omniscan bookscanner, and depositing and editing digital objects in the Harvard Library Digital Repository Service. Additional duties may include assisting with the appraisal and processing of modern manuscript collections for digitization. 

We seek an individual possessing careful attention to detail, clear communications, flexibility, and proficiency and enjoyment working independently and in teams. Preference will be given to applicants with an interest in digital libraries, experience in handling rare books and special collections, and/or knowledge of hardware, software, and workflows associated with digital imaging.

Salary and hours: $19.00 per hour, up to a maximum of 14 hours a week. 

Term: through June 2022, with the possibility for an extension contingent upon continued funding.
