CW MARS seeks an innovative cataloger/trainer who will work closely with our member libraries in the areas of cataloging, acquisitions and serials.  The successful candidate will embrace technology and enjoy working with cataloging software and providing end-user training and support to library staff at all levels. The ideal candidate will help lead our consortium into the future by implementing our strategic goal to conduct a needs assessment with member libraries, benchmark consortium cataloging practices, and help identify opportunities to collaborate with member library cataloging staff and refine network cataloging services.

This is a supervisory level, full time position located in Worcester, Massachusetts with the option for remote work one to two days per week.  Includes a competitive benefit package as well as a relocation benefit.

Under the general direction of the Manager of Library Applications, this position:

  • oversees ILS training and support provided to all CW MARS member libraries in the areas of: cataloging, acquisitions, and serials.
  • provides bibliographic leadership and is responsible for the maintenance, accuracy, and enhancement of bibliographic data to ensure a high level of data quality and data integrity in the shared ILS.
  • supervises one full-time and two part-time staff members, regularly reviews internal CatCenter workflows and makes recommendations for adapting to changes in technology and ILS software enhancements. 
  • works closely with the CW MARS Bibliographic Committee to review and create policy and develop initiatives that support the CW MARS strategic plan. Professional engagement is encouraged and supported.

Qualifications:

  1. MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited program.
  2. Minimum of 3 years professional cataloging experience in a consortial environment. 
  3. Cataloging experience should include:
    1. original cataloging on a variety of formats, including the use of a standard classification scheme and standardized subject headings and/or thesauri.  
    2. deep knowledge of MARC record formats and current cataloging standards.
    3. proficiency with using all cataloging components of an ILS.
    4. knowledge of cataloging standards for digital formats and familiarity with established and emerging metadata standards.
  4. Minimum of three years of supervisory experience managing cataloging staff is required.
  5. Knowledge of emerging information technology and trends in libraries is required.
  6. Proven ability to work as a member of a team, a strong service orientation, and the ability to work with internal teams and cataloging staff at member libraries is essential. 
  7. Proven written and oral communications, committee meeting facilitation skills, and experience leading in-person and virtual end-user training sessions required.  
  8. Experience with OCLC searching, editing, overlaying and inputting original cataloging records is required.
  9. Familiarity with Google Workspace applications and experience with the Evergreen ILS are highly desired.
