Programming & Outreach Manager, Dedham Public Library, MA

The Town of Dedham is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position Programming and Outreach Manager to oversee and coordinate library-wide programming for all ages, guiding staff in program planning, including the type, number, frequency, and location of programs offered. Ensures appealing, high-quality programs enriching the lives of all patrons. The Program and Outreach Manager will also provide programs and outreach services throughout the Town of Dedham and work with various government and non-government organizations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides oversight in the development and delivery of library programs, including Summer Reading, to ensure there are program offerings for all ages and interests.
  • Review all staff program plans, schedules, and promotional material prior to disseminating program information to the public.
  • Works with internal stakeholders to promote library programs and services.
  • Identifies opportunities for special programs; works with other town departments and organizations on program initiatives.
  • Formulates goals, plans, and procedures for implementing outreach services in accordance with organizational strategic plans and priorities.
  • Develop outreach activities to promote library programming, resources and services. Promote new and existing library resources and services in person and through print, web and other media.
  • Oversees new and existing partnerships to provide service and/or promote the library, including but not limited to schools, underrepresented communities, home delivery, senior facilities, special populations and business community.
  • Serves as principal contact for community groups, organizations and individuals interested in Outreach services.
  • Monitors the annual programming budget; seeks grants and sponsorships.
  • Maintain program records, prepare monthly and yearly program reports.
  • Participate in the Library’s IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility) Committee meetings.
  • Attends professional meetings, conferences, workshops and classes at the discretion of the Director.
  • Oversees the preparation of the Library’s newsletter.
  • Available to work evenings and Saturdays.

Recommended Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • MLS degree required
  • 1-3 years experience in public program planning.
  • Three years of progressively more responsible professional library experience, with two years in a supervisory capacity.

Knowledge, Ability, and Skill

  • Ability to creatively plan and implement programs.
  • Experience creating marketing material.
  • Ability to recognize and set priorities, using initiative and independent judgment in all situations.
  • Experience working with a diverse user community inclusive of all ages, ability and background.
  • Grant writing skills are highly desirable
  • Knowledge of library trends, technology, and social media.
  • Knowledge of generational and multicultural issues, procedural writing, and literacy.
  • Working knowledge of WordPress and Elementor
  • Bilingual or functional knowledge of another language
