Youth Services Manager, Scarborough Public Library, Scarborough, ME

The Scarborough Public Library seeks an energetic and engaging individual to lead the Youth Services team in providing an excellent library experience to the community’s youth and their families. The Youth Services Manager is responsible for effectively managing all functions of the Youth Services department including staffing, customer service, collection development, and programming and works as part of the management team to further the library’s mission. With planning for a potential building expansion underway, the Youth Services Manager will contribute to building upon the library’s strong foundation.

A master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program is required as is demonstrated knowledge of child development, materials for children, and current trends in library services for children. Supervisory experience is also required. The successful candidate must be able to work independently in a busy environment and be comfortable working with patrons of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.

The Youth Services Manager works a minimum of 40 hours a week. This is a professional, salaried, exempt position not eligible for overtime pay. Schedule includes a mix of weekday, evening, and weekend hours based on the operating, staffing, and programming needs of the library. Flexibility in scheduling is required.

Salary range starts at $58,531 ($28.14/hour) and is based on education and experience. Benefits include: paid vacation, personal, and sick time; medical, dental, life, and disability insurance; and a 401 money purchase retirement plan with optional 457 deferred compensation plan.
