Head of Borrower Services, Chelmsford Public Library, MA

We are looking for a Department Head to oversee the Chelmsford Public Library Borrower Services Department (formerly the Circulation Department) and supervise 7-9 full and part-time employees. The Head of Borrower Services is part of the management team of the library and participates in strategic planning and policy making. It is a 37.5 hour Union position that includes one night per week and Saturdays in a four week rotation.  This job includes health, dental and life insurance benefits and is represented by the Chelmsford Federation of Teachers, Local 3569.  The Town of Chelmsford is an EEO/AA Employer.

Qualifications: 

Qualities we are looking for include:

Customer service –You have the ability to deal with the good, the bad and especially the ugly. We need you to be consistent, calm and steady – always showing grace under pressure.

Technology aptitude – Maybe not quite Sheldon Cooper level but we need you to hit the ground running. You should be comfortable learning new software and applications and teaching these skills to others. It would be awesome if you had some website building knowledge and a familiarity with WordPress.

ILS troubleshooting experience – You will be a key person for our ILS – you need to be comfortable working with and training people on a variety of library systems. Experience with Symphony would be music to our ears.

Big reader and recommender – You are the kind of person who sits next to someone on a plane and they come home with a list of must-reads, you love sharing your last favorite book.

Bridge-builder – You are a team builder and eager to combine talents across departments. You ask for advice and work collaboratively on solutions.

Salary:  

$57,591 to $81,853 in ten steps

Education and Training:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science preferred, MLS candidate considered
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a public library
  • Two years of supervisory experience
