Instruction Librarian II, Community Learning
Under direction of the Community Learning Supervisor or delegate, responsible for carrying out the Library’s programs of service to the public with emphasis on public instruction as well as advanced and specialized reference work, and to perform professional work requiring substantial application of professional knowledge and experience.
The successful applicant should bring experience in library services or a related field and experience with organizational development and/project management. Equally important, the successful applicant will bring experience working in the diversity equity and inclusion space in either a primary or secondary supporting role. Demonstrated experience working with specific communities that experience systemic barriers or ability to leverage relevant personal lived experience is preferred.
The work of this role is expected to apply to all areas of the organization, but with particular awareness of collections, services, programs, partnerships, procurement, recruiting and staff culture and development as well as issues of access – physical and digital. The position thus also works in close collaboration with the Director of Library Services, Chief of Collections, the Director of Strategic Partnerships and President’s office, as well as many others.
Under direction of the Research Services Team Leader or delegate and within the framework of Library policies and practices, participates in reference service to the public. The work also includes performance of various tasks requiring the successful application of the knowledge of professional literature, bibliographic sources, and principles of information delivery and services.
Floater Librarian I (part time, 18 hours/week)
The Boston Public Library is seeking a part time (18 hour per week) Floater librarian available to work days, nights and/or weekends to staff public service desks. The Floater shall be assigned as needed to various locations throughout the Boston Public Library system.
Under supervision, and within the framework of Library policies and practices, participates in services including reference services, to a diverse population characteristic of an urban setting, at various locations in Central or branch libraries as assigned. Also includes the performance of various tasks requiring broad professional knowledge of literature, bibliographic sources and principles of information delivery and services.
Processes archival collections held by the Boston Public Library across all formats. Ensures that collections are arranged and described in accordance with established standards and best practices at an appropriate level of detail and effort. Assists with development of the library’s processing policies and procedures for archival materials across a spectrum from basic initial control through full, detailed description. Works closely with appropriate staff to set accessioning, deaccessioning, and processing priorities, and tracks and reports progress. Collaborates with other BPL staff on the development and use of tools and workflows to support description and access.
