QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Massachusetts Certification as a Librarian (All Levels) and/or Instructional Technology (All Levels)
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Google Suite of instructional tools.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge integrating technology within the general curriculum.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with technology as both a teaching and a learning tool.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge of digital media.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication, including preparation and delivery of small and large group presentations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a willingness to help others.
  • Experience in a 1:1 environment.
  • Such alternatives as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Building Administrator(s)

JOB GOAL:

The Library Media Specialist reports to the Building Administrator(s) and assists students and staff grades Pre K-7 within an improved library/ media environment. The Library Media Specialist will provide instruction to students in information literacy and technology skills as an integral part of the content and objectives of the district’s curriculum. The Specialist will encourage and support, the development of critical thinking and independent learning while promoting the love of reading and the appreciation of literature.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluates, selects and requisitions appropriate books, aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
  • Catalogs all library materials and maintains an inventory of books, computers, software etc. using a comprehensive and efficient system; assists students and teachers with the use of the system.
  • Provides access to the library/media center throughout the school day with a weekly schedule of classes
  • Participates in curriculum planning and program development and implementation, develops a close working relationship among educators, building administrator(s), and other Library Media Specialists
  • Serves as ready resource to students to provide research assistance.
  • Coordinates system of lending library material to students and teachers.
  • Produces and provides, a monthly report on library usage, lessons implemented and book circulation details.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Assists as needed with trouble-shooting of technology issues as related to instructional delivery in the library media center for students and staff. The library media specialist will also assist with lesson/ unit planning which may include periodicals, print, video and media content.
  • Co-teaches, models, and supports integrated lessons in the classroom by providing direct instruction to students and teachers in the use of new and emerging technologies.
  • Assists teachers in accessing a variety of materials to more effectively differentiate instruction in order to accommodate the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Develops instructional technology solutions and related training materials for the purpose of providing users throughout the building with resources needed to enhance student learning as it pertains to the district’s curriculum.
  • Participates in developing and monitoring ethical technology use and district-wide instructional technology guidelines and standards (e.g. content, relevance, effectiveness, etc.) for the purpose of enhancing student achievement.
  • Assists with the preparation and administration of the media center budget.
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to develop curricular content that integrates library media and technology skills.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the building Administrator(s) and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Regular School Year work year as established by the Taunton Educator’s Association
Contract, and other terms, benefits and conditions as defined by Taunton Educator’s
Association Contract

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the educator evaluation
system listed in the Taunton Educator’s Association contract.
