The West Bridgewater Public Library, a forward-thinking town library, seeks a progressively
responsible, innovative, creative and dedicated librarian to become the library’s next Assistant
Director in this 40-hour/week permanent, salaried position with full benefits. 
The Assistant Director will report to the Library Director who will encourage them to: explore
areas of both professional and personal interests, lead with confidence and diplomacy, further
current managerial and supervisory skills in a supportive environment, and be a part of a
rewarding team.


The position also includes such opportunities as: collaborating with local schools via book talks
and curriculum support, developing and implementing adult and/or young adult programming
that suits your passions, working interdepartmentally with the Circulation, Technical Services
and Youth Services departments, administering traditional and innovative reference services
including, but not limited to: reference interviews, one-on-one and small class technology help,
becoming comfortable with the 3-D printer and other Makerspace technology, and pursuing
other opportunities as they arise. The ideal candidate will have a passion for public libraries and
in working with patrons of all ages, including young people after school, as well as the aptitude
for fostering and partaking in a positive work and library environment.


The essential duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
● Providing stellar customer service by assisting patrons of all ages in using Library
resources and services, including computers, electronic resources, reference and
circulation services, and readers’ advisory
● Supervising staff and volunteers as well as working cohesively as a team
● Delivering community outreach via electronic marketing initiatives and social media, as
well as assisting in maintaining the library’s website
● Maintaining and troubleshooting technology such as computers and printers
● Assisting in coordinating a variety of programming and activities to encourage positive
use of the library by people of all ages
● Actively participating in weekly and monthly programs as well as attending monthly
Board of Trustees meetings
● Explaining and administering library policies and procedures
● Planning budgets, schedules and writing grants as they occur
● Relating positively to a diverse population, communicating effectively and directly with
both the public and the staff
● Other duties as assigned

The employee will work a schedule that may include evenings and Saturday shifts as determined by the Library Director in order to provide coverage of all public hours at the library. The employee will also step into leadership and represent the library in the Library Director’s absence.  

Qualifications
● Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) from an accredited university
● Minimum three (3) years public library experience
● Strong organizational & writing skills and public service experience 
● Experience with computers, operating systems, downloadable apps, electronic library
services
● Managerial/supervisory/administration experience in the areas of reference and/or
circulation preferred
 
Must be capable of operating miscellaneous tools and office equipment relative to this position
which shall include, but not be limited to: computers, copiers, fax machines, iPads, tablets or
other technology added to the library in the future. Ability to move around the facility; walking,
sitting, bending, climbing, kneeling, carrying and stooping; Ability to use hand and finger
motions with enough manual dexterity to operate computers and handle library items; Lift up to
25 pounds, or additional weight with assistance; and perform other duties considered regular
library tasks.

Salary Range: $61,000 – $64,000, based on experience
