Collections Processing Associate, UCONN Library, CT

The UConn Library is seeking a new Collections Processing Associate to coordinate all aspects of shelf
preparation and maintenance for the Library’s physical collections. Reporting to the Head of Acquisitions & Discovery, the incumbent will provide onsite support, adhering barcodes and security tags, printing and applying spine labels, and shelving physical collections and preparing large shipments for binding. The position will also catalog library materials in all formats, update holdings and item records, and perform related collection maintenance operations in the Library’s library management system.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Coordinates physical processing workflows across library units and campuses.
• Coordinates physical processing operations, equipment, and related supplies and vendor
relationships.
• Coordinates all aspects of shelf preparation and quality control of third-party physical processing.
• Identifies library materials requiring third-party processing, conservation treatment, and
special processing.
• Develops and maintains an ongoing knowledge of the
Library’s library management system appropriate to work responsibilities.
• Performs copy cataloging of library materials in all formats.
• Evaluates and updates MARC bibliographic and holdings records that have missing or
inaccurate data, fields, summary holdings information, and other data; evaluates item records for
correct content; updates system status of all incoming and outgoing materials.
• Trains and supervises students in daily and special project physical processing functions.
• Participates in problem resolution; helps identify and assists with data cleanup projects.
• Maintains documentation and training materials.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree.
  2. Minimum of three years related professional experience.
  3. Experience in and demonstrated understanding of metadata and cataloging workflows
    and processes.
  4. Familiarity with standard library classification schemes (such as Library of Congress
    Classification or Dewey Decimal Classification) and the organization of library materials.
  5. Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise student employees.
  6. Demonstrated understanding of the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion and ability to work
    collaboratively with individuals of diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
  7. Demonstrated aptitude for accurate, detail-oriented work, and strong data entry skills.
  8. Ability to identify problems and implement solutions both collaboratively and independently.
  9. Ability to work successfully in a collaborative environment and to actively participate in team-
    based decision-making.
  10. Strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience with a library management system, such as Ex Libris Alma.
  2. Experience with RFID software.
  3. Experience using cataloging software, particularly OCLC Connexion.
  4. Experience with shelf preparation processes and services.
  5. Advanced proficiency with Excel.

This is a full-time position based in Storrs, Connecticut. The University offers a competitive salary,
