Library Media Technician, Cambridge Public Schools, Cambridge, MA

Under the supervision of the Teachers’ Resource Center (TRC) Library Media Specialist and Assistant Director of Library Media Services, the Media Technical Assistant is based in the District Teachers’ Resource Center located in Cambridge Rindge and Latin School. The position is responsible for maintaining a positive, welcoming environment and providing a variety of on-site library, technology and audio/video services to CPSD educators in an active, professional library/technology center. 

The position includes point of need support for facility patrons, the promotion of TRC digital media resources, staff training in the use of digital media and CPS audio/video subscription resources, media production, troubleshooting patron technical issues, multimedia equipment circulation, facility maintenance, and supporting the Library Media Specialist, Assistant Director of Library Media Services and Library Media Department members as requested. 

The hours for this position are 7:30-3:30, Monday-Friday, 10 months per year.

Responsibilities:  

  • Circulates and maintains TRC multimedia instructional equipment, supplies and inventory
  • Circulates TRC content resources and assists patrons with TRC catalog/database searches
  • Provides multimedia set ups for meetings and special events at CRLS
  • Provides video recording of professional learning/special events
  • Recommends audio & video equipment purchases to ICTS school-based teams
  • Produces educator-facing training videos and supporting materials for TRC multimedia resources 
  • Produces multimedia projects with CPS educators at the direction of the Library Media Specialist 
  • Troubleshoots patron technical issues 
  • Provides point of need, individual and small group training for educators in the use of media equipment and CPS subscription media-making applications such as We Video, Soundtrap, Screencastify, Voicethread, Google Sites
  • Updates TRC website and manages social media as directed by Library Media Specialist
  • Supports Teachers’ Resource Center Library Media Specialist in special projects as assigned
  • Supports K-12 library media/technology specialists in special projects as assigned (e.g. website development and maintenance, independent production of CPS library resource video tutorials, etc.)

As the TRC’s needs change over time, the Media Technical Assistant will respond to these changes by being flexible and willing to assume emerging responsibilities and technical skills as needed.

Your Skill Set:

As the incoming Library Media Technician, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in library media or instructional media and technology support or related fields
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines in a busy service environment
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to be service-oriented
  • Experience working successfully with a diverse population in an urban educational setting
  • Experience with video production and audio equipment including audio setups for special events.
  • Interest in and ability to learn new technologies
  • Experience with, or willingness to learn CPSD audio and video subscription resources and Google Sites 
  • Knowledge of both Mac and PC platforms
  • Demonstrated commitment to on-going professional learning 

Salary: $46,154 – $57,432
