Online Learning Assistant Librarian, Northeastern University Library, Boston, MA

Northeastern University Library is seeking a part-time Online Learning Assistant. Reporting to the Global Campus Outreach and Online Learning Librarian, this position supports the library’s mission to provide accessible and equitable online programming to its students in Boston and across Northeastern’s nine regional campuses. The person in this position will moderate, and assist with current online programs as well as collaborate with librarians and assist with remote learning, outreach efforts to our growing online community, and accessibility efforts. Projects might include accessibility checks, captioning, peer review and creating online learning objects and tutorials.

The successful candidate will be:

● Self-directed, possess the ability to make independent decisions regarding project prioritization.

● Ability to seek out and brainstorm new projects.
● Comfortable with remote outreach and distance learning.
● Intellectually curious, with a broad range of interests, particularly related to
distance learning, accessibility, outreach, and best practices in instruction.

Minimum Qualifications
● Familiar with basics of online learning and distance educational best practices.

● Interested in instruction and working with remote learners.

● Interested in working with learners from diverse backgrounds.

● Familiar with (or interested in) accessibility practices and online learning.

● Can work independently and is a self-motivated learner.

● Able to read, write, and speak English.
● Comfortable using computer software such as Microsoft Office.
● Comfortable communicating electronically using tools such as email, Zoom, Microsoft Teams.

Preferred Qualifications
● Experience using the Springshare suite such as LibCal, LibInsights, and LibWizard.
● Previous online programming, outreach, or remote instruction experience.

Full/Part-time: Part-time @ 12 hours per week
Position duration: Fall semester 2021 & Spring semester 2022, winter break off
Position Schedule:
– 24 weeks total
– 12 weeks in the Fall (Sept-Nov)
– 12 weeks in the Spring (Jan-Apr)
Education: MLIS or Master’s in Library Science in progress
Salary: $18 per hour
