Library Assistant – Young Adult Services, York Public Library, York, ME

The York Public Library is seeking an energetic and dedicated professional to fill the position of Library Assistant for Young Adult Services. The winning candidate understands and enjoys youth ages 10 – 18, and advocates for their educational and recreational needs through appropriate programs, outreach and services. Responsibilities include monitoring the tween/teen areas of the library, circulating materials and providing reference and reader’s advisory services primarily from the Young Adult circulation desk. This person should possess excellent communication skills and be self-motivated.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of recent experience in young adult programming & services; proven ability in and passion for working with patrons ages 10 – 18, and motivation to build upon a growing library demographic. Bonus points for creativity, sense of humor, and appreciation for change. 

A Bachelor’s degree and applicable work experience required, work toward a Master’s degree in Library Science is preferred. Experience in Sierra library software is highly desirable. 

This position is for 25 hours per week. The schedule will include 2 evenings per week and 1-2 Saturdays per month. Compensation starting range is $19.66 to $22.82. This position includes paid leave and a generous deferred compensation plan with 6.5% matching funds after one year of service.
