Assistant Director, Whitman Public Library, Whitman, MA

The Whitman Public Library is a small public library in a welcoming community approximately 40
minutes south of Boston. We welcome enthusiastic and friendly candidates to apply for the position of
Assistant Library Director at our small but busy library.


The Assistant Director will oversee all aspects of library services for adults including; technology
assistance, reference services, bibliographic instruction, collection development of adult materials and
resources, and the development and implementation of adult programming.


The ideal candidate must be comfortable working directly with the public and assisting them with all
information needs. The ability to multitask and a willingness to perform hands on library work is
essential to the position.


This position has a typical work week of 35 hours though additional hours may be required from time to
time. One – two evening shift(s) per week and roughly one – two Saturdays a month is required along
with attendance at special meetings and programs.

Qualifications:
-ALA accredited MLS or MLIS preferred, current MLS students and recent graduates are strongly
encouraged to apply.
-2-3 years of public library experience preferred.
-Experience in reference services, including resources and techniques.
-Comfort with emerging technologies.
-Programming experience preferred.


Salary:
$50,000 – $55,000 plus town benefits.
