Archives Management Help Wanted for Small Family Archive, Cambridge, MA

Description:

We are looking for help sorting through, restoring, and preserving some family archives. We are based in Central Square, Cambridge, and the project involves about 5 file boxes worth of stuff in a residence.

My mother’s ancestors inhabited a claim shack in South Dakota in the mid-19th century and there are some physical artifacts from that era in addition to some documents.

Another set of her ancestors ran a printing press that was destroyed by Confederate sympathizers. There is correspondence between them and President Lincoln (and members of his staff) concerning restitution.

There is older material from the home country (Norway) that is less historically significant but equally meaningful to our family, and we are seeking advice on how best to restore and preserve what we have, mostly papers and photographs, as well as help doing so.

Flexible scheduling. Must be COVID vaccinated, able to climb a library ladder, and lift up to 25 lbs.

Rate: $35 per hour
