The Schwob Memorial Library at Columbus State University seeks applicants for the Head of
Information Strategies and Scholarly Communications position. Duties focus on the oversight of
the libraries’ systems, electronic resources, web platforms, and institutional repository. The
Head of Information Strategies and Scholarly Communications supervises two paraprofessional
employees and one student assistant. This position oversees electronic resource management
and licensing, periodical and government documents management, the CSU e-Press, and
acquisitions. This position also works closely with all library departments, UITS and COOL on a
wide variety of projects.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: providing advice, guidance and information on
library technology needs; technology troubleshooting within the libraries; overseeing the library
management systems and all other electronic systems, such as ILLiad, Alma, OCLC
Connexion, Cataloger’s Toolkit, LibGuides, LibAnswers and Digital Commons; compiling
statistics; managing and maintaining Gallileo, Stacks, Alma, CSU ePress, and libraries website;
administration, planning, and vision for/of library technology environment; managing print and
electronic journals; subject-specific liaison outreach and teaching; assisting with the
management of the library procurement and budget; troubleshooting and resolving problems
with the library’s hardware and software use; and other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • ALA-accredited Master of Library Science and a minimum of three years of progressively
  • responsible experience in managing technical services and systems programs.
  • Supervisory experience
  • Working knowledge of integrated library systems, bibliographic utilities, and library networking
  • practices and standards
  • Working knowledge of MARC 21, Dublin Core, MARCXML, MODS and cataloging standards,
  • such as AACR2 and RDA
  • Practical experience with HTML/CSS, XSLT and other web programming standards
  • Experience managing relational databases
  • Experience with Unix/Linux server environments and computer architecture
  • Experience with basic JAVA programming
  • SQL programming experience
  • Experience with desktop computer applications and repair
  • Desire to expand knowledge of other technologies to further the goals and expansion of library
  • services
  • Ability to set priorities and complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
