Access Services Coordinator (Less Than Half Time), Harvard University / Harvard Library, Cambridge, MA

Access Services actively supports the mission of the Harvard Library by delivering a high standard of service; cultivating a welcoming environment that is supportive to academic research and inquiry; stewarding the university collection; and connecting the academic community to the vast array of library resources. We support the teaching and scholarly mission of the University through collaborative partnerships with the community of students, scholars, and professionals at Harvard and beyond. 

We are hiring two temporary staff who will report to the Access Services Manager at Widener Library. 

Scheduling: 
We have two positions available up to 14 hours a week. 
These temporary positions have scheduled hours that include one weekend day either Saturday or Sunday 12noon-5pm 
Other hours to be arranged during the following days and times: 
Monday-Thursday from 3-7pm and Friday 9am-12noon or 2-5pm. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 
Provide support for reading room services in Widener Library; assist visiting researchers and Harvard affiliates consulting in-library use and special collections materials; process requests using ALMA, Aeon, and LibCal; prepare rare, fragile, and non-circulating materials for in-library use in the secure reading room; convey handling instructions to patrons using rare or fragile materials and supervise their use; provide access to microfilm and periodicals; supervise and assign tasks to student workers. Provide coverage for the Widener Circulation Desk as needed.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

•  High school diploma or equivalent education required
•    Excellent oral and written communication skills
•    Strong public service orientation, with previous library or related customer service experience required

• Computer skills must include Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel, as well as collaborative tools (e.g. Google Suite, Microsoft Teams, etc.)

Additional Qualifications

•    College degree or college-level coursework preferred
•    Previous library or related work experience preferred
•    Experience with an online library catalog and management system (particularly ALMA Integrated Library syste01) and familiarity with electronic academic library resources preferred
•    Sensitivity to working in a diverse user environment
•    Ability to solve problems effectively and exercise discerning judgment
•    Some supervisory experience preferred
•    Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work productively in a team environment
•    Ability to perform repetitive work tasks with overall accuracy, effectiveness, and attention to detail
•    Adaptable, able to flexibly adjust to changing workplace needs
•    This position involves regularly lifting and moving loads weighing up to 50 pounds; mµst be able to push heavy library book trucks
•    This position requires bending, squatting, stretching, and climbing small step stools when needed to retrieve books and shelve them

Part Time, 14 hours per week
