Resource Sharing and Reserves Evening Associate, The University at Albany Libraries, Albany, NY

The University at Albany Libraries (State University of New York, Albany, NY) seek a flexible and enthusiastic individual with a strong desire and orientation toward providing user-focused services. The successful candidate must have the ability to work an afternoon/evening schedule during the fall and spring semesters (Monday-Thursday, 1:15 p.m.-9:15 p.m.; Friday, 12:15 p.m.-8:15 p.m.); an earlier schedule may apply to adjust with library hours during winter and summer sessions.

The Resource Sharing & Reserves Evening Associate will process complex interlibrary loan and document delivery requests and serve as a resource to clerical staff processing interlibrary loan requests; provide support for course reserve services; assist library users with a wide range of library, research, and technology-related needs; support library services in the Information Commons; and help maintain building security and safety to ensure an environment conducive to study and research during evening hours.

This position reports to the Resource Sharing and Reserves Coordinator (Instructional Support Technician, SL-3).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced Interlibrary Loan request processing. Complete requests that require manual intervention and oversee daily quality control measures for outgoing physical materials. Process/scan requested materials for interlibrary loan, document delivery, and course reserves
  • Provide lending and access services to library users in the University and Science libraries for a wide range of library materials and resources, including reserves, media, rooms/facilities, and equipment. This requires communicating effectively with library staff and users face-to-face, by phone, and by email; performing advanced circulation transactions and accurately explaining lending policies and procedures; assisting library users with basic searches in the library website or catalog; understanding library-wide services and making effective referrals; and troubleshooting and reporting facilities, IT, and security issues with the University Police Department, Library Systems, University ITS, and other units
  • Assist with supervising and training student employees and clerical staff in procedures and policies related to circulation desk services, processing/scanning resource sharing and reserves materials, and collection maintenance tasks
  • Compile and analyze resource sharing and reserves statistics; assist with maintaining resource sharing and reserves procedural documentation; stay abreast of changes in the rapidly changing field of resource sharing

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Examine workflows and make recommendations for improvements and changes to streamline processes
  • Assist in piloting and assessing new resource sharing initiatives, technologies, and consortia
