Established in 1971 as an affiliate of the American Library Association (ALA), REFORMA has actively sought to promote the development of library collections to include Spanish-language and Latino oriented materials; the recruitment of more bilingual and bicultural library professionals and support staff; the development of library services and programs that meet the needs of the Latino community; the establishment of a national information and support network among individuals who share our goals; the education of the U.S. Latino population in regards to the availability and types of library services; and lobbying efforts to preserve existing library resource centers serving the interests of Latinos.
RNC VII is a conference for all REFORMA members and anyone interested in library services to Latinos and the Spanish-Speaking. It will be held November 4-7, 2021 at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront.
What is the purpose of the Scholarship?
- Provide library employees and students an opportunity to attend a professional conference.
- Provide library employees and students the opportunity to gain knowledge in providing services to the Spanish Speaking.
- Increase participation with REFORMA
Who is Eligible?
- Library staff—librarians, paraprofessionals, international staff—experiencing financial hardship or those currently furloughed or unemployed.
- Students enrolled in an ALA accredited library school.
Selection Criteria:
- Candidates must complete and submit the application form below, explaining why they are interested in the grant and how the knowledge gained will benefit their library and/or their career.
- The committee will strive to achieve diversity and balance among scholarship recipients and will also take into account financial need.
Awarded Scholarships:
Library Staff
Approximately 30 library staff scholarships may be awarded depending on available funds. Up to $250 may be granted per applicant. Each scholarship will cover Admission Fee ($200 value), and may include Full Day Pre-Conference ($50 value).
Students
Approximately 20 student scholarships may be awarded depending on available funds. Up to $135 may be granted per applicant. Each scholarship will cover student Admission Fee ($75 value), and may include Full Day Pre-Conference ($50 value), and REFORMA Membership ($10 value).
