Description:

Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Digital Pedagogy and Scholarship Librarian. Early-career candidates are encouraged to apply.

Reporting to the University Librarian, the Digital Pedagogy and Scholarship Librarian will provide vision and direction for digital learning at Hollins, including the development, planning, implementation, creation, and support of teaching and research projects within curriculum and scholarship. The librarian will partner with faculty, staff, and students to foster and support the use of digital tools and techniques to enhance research and improve teaching and learning, and will support faculty in all aspects of instructional technology integration and innovation.

The Digital Pedagogy and Scholarship Librarian will have the opportunity to:

  • Define a new position as the first librarian at Hollins responsible for collaboration with faculty on the integration of instructional technologies into courses.
  • Partner with faculty and Information Technology staff to transform the application of instructional technologies across the undergraduate and graduate curriculum at Hollins, as the university explores new models of education delivery in a post-pandemic environment.
  • Collaborate with library colleagues to integrate instructional technologies into the suite of academic support provided by the library.
  • Grow the library’s suite of digital initiatives in partnership with a soon-to-be-hired Archivist and Special Collections Librarian who will serve as the institutional repository manager.

Successful applicants must have either a Master’s in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association, or a master’s in educational technology, instructional design, or related field. Candidates should have a strong working knowledge of instructional technologies, including learning management systems, presentation tools, and emerging technologies that can enhance classroom and remote or asynchronous instruction. They must also show knowledge and application of theoretical frameworks for instructional design, such as Universal Design for Learning (UDL), authentic learning, or constructivist models of design.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, particularly the ability to explain complex concepts to a wide variety of community members in individual and group settings. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks, are a requirement, as is prior success in collaborating with multiple stakeholders to plan, coordinate, and implement effective programs, complex projects, and/or services. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to professional development and to providing cross-functional library services in a rapidly changing environment.

Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. President Mary Hinton has prioritized diversity, equity, and justice at Hollins, and the Wyndham Robertson Library has responded to this call to action by integrating those goals into the work of the library.

Preferred qualifications include experience working in a library; experience working in higher education; experience with teaching, training, and/or consulting, particularly with faculty and students; experience with Moodle; experience with digital scholarship tools, such as Bepress Digital Commons, Omeka and/or JSTOR Forum; and a demonstrated involvement with current developments in the field of digital pedagogy and/or digital humanities, such as Black Digital Humanities.

How to Apply:

Qualified candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references to [email protected].  Candidates are encouraged to comment in their cover letter on how their contributions will further the university’s efforts to ensure the success and inclusion of all members of its community.

Review of applications will begin immediately, and will continue until the position is filled.
