Metadata Services Librarian, Tisch Library (Tufts University), Somerville, MA

Tisch Library is a student-centered research library, dedicated to the support of teaching, learning, and scholarship in Tufts’ School of Arts & Sciences and School of Engineering. We provide collections, subject expertise, and technology-rich research and learning environments, with a variety of services and programs to meet the information needs of our students, faculty, and staff. The Metadata Services Department provides support for the creation, management and preservation of scholarship. The department cultivates teamwork and collaborative relationships within and outside Tisch Library to provide high-quality resources and services for our users. Reporting to the Head of Metadata Services, the Metadata Services Librarian will be part of a collaborative team that develops and implements policies and procedures for analyzing and organizing content in all formats.  The successful candidate will also help drive the development and growth of metadata services in Tisch Library to support the discovery and distribution of new scholarship.

Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:

  • MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution, or equivalent combination of knowledge and experience.
  • Self-motivated and detail oriented with evidence of high productivity and problem-solving skills when working independently or in groups, as changing situations require.
  • The ability to work with varied user groups, and function effectively in a team environment and in a complex organization. Demonstrated ability to work collegially, cooperatively, and flexibly within and across the organization.
  • Excellent analytical skills and oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of established and emerging national and international standards relating to metadata and classification.
  • Knowledge of trends and issues in academic libraries, scholarly communications, higher education, publishing, and metadata developments.
  • Experience with metadata schemas and standards such as Dublin Core and/or MODS, MARC, AACR2, CONSER, RDA, LCSH.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • A demonstrated commitment to staff development and diversity in the workplace.     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years’ experience working in an academic library setting.
  • Experience with HTML, XML, XSLT markup languages.
  • Experience with Alma Integrated Library Management System.
  • Experience with original metadata creation for print and electronic serials.
  • Knowledge of authority control systems.
  • Knowledge of copyright issues as they pertain to institutions of higher education.
  • Project management experience.
  • Working knowledge of a foreign language.

Salary range: $55,000-$75,000
