Archive Specialist, Senator McCain Papers Project (Arizona State University), Tempe, AZ

Under the direction of the Senator John S. McCain Archivist, conducts collection management, arrangement and description of archival materials consistent with established standards, policies and procedures to ensure ongoing preservation. This includes the review, rehousing of, and/or description of both physical and digital records, including audiovisual media. This position is grant funded and there is no guarantee of continuance beyond the life of the grant. Grant funding through 2024.

Essential Duties

Under the direction of the Senator John S. McCain Archivist: 

  • Evaluates the physical condition of archival materials during processing; 
  • Works closely and collaboratively with the Preservation Services unit regarding appropriate handling, housing and/or conservation treatments. 
  • Participates in arrangement, preservation and archival processing of materials in various formats and media;
  • Re-houses materials into archival boxes and folders; 
  • Creates preliminary inventories and creates descriptive text for finding aids and websites. 
  • As directed by the supervising Archivist, arranges and describes materials using accepted archival principles and techniques; enters information into an online catalogue for location and title. 
  • Packs and ensures safe transport of collections to designated locations; prepares items for delivery to remote storage. 
  • Collects and compiles monthly statistical measures; prepares related operational and statistical reports for management. 
  • Reviews materials for reformatting and engages in quality assurance and quality control activities
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years related library experience, one (1) of which includes archive experience OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a  Masters degree in Library/Information Science 
  • Experience handling or processing archival materials
  • Demonstrated knowledge of United States politics

Status: Full-Time

Salary Range: $36,000-$45,000 per year; DOE
