Library Director, Brookline Public Library, Brookline, NH

Description:

The Trustees of the Brookline Public Library are seeking an energetic, creative individual with
excellent interpersonal, leadership, and technical skills to join our library family in the key
leadership role of Library Director.

The Brookline Public Library is the town library for Brookline, NH, a growing southern NH
town with a current population of about 5,000 residents. The library is the heartbeat of our
friendly, active community and offers a welcoming space for patrons of all ages who are in
search of a great book, an interesting movie, enriching and entertaining programs, or friendly
conversation. We pride ourselves in being an integral community resource, with an active and
highly engaged Friends of the Library group, strong community support, and a devoted Board of
Trustees.

The Library Director reports to the elected Board of Trustees, and provides strong leadership to a
dedicated library team. The Director performs professional and administrative duties across a full
range of library services including personnel management, programming, budget preparation,
collection development, community relations, and facilities management. The Director serves as
the spokesperson for the library in the Brookline community and represents the library in
interactions with town officials; it’s a highly visible leadership role.

We’re seeking an experienced leader who is comfortable wearing the variety of “hats” the role of
Library Director typically entails. A Master’s in Library Science or a related degree is required.
Significant library management experience, direct staff management experience, developing and
maintaining an annual operating budget, excellent interpersonal and communication skills,
proficiency with library and office technologies, and the ability to keep pace with digital trends
are all mandatory. A “can do” spirit and a curious mindset along with a genuine interest to
engage with and help patrons find what they’re looking for –even when they themselves may not
be sure what it is – are also essential to this role.

This is a full time, 40 hours per week position. We’re offering a salary range of $48,000-$60,000
commensurate with experience, plus a generous benefits package that includes health and dental
insurance and participation in the NH Retirement System.
