The Belmont Public Library is seeking a Reference & Public Services Librarian to join their team. The Reference & Public Services Librarian provides professional reference librarian and information services to library patrons and supports programming, community and public service needs. The work is performed under the supervision of the Coordinator of Reference & Public Services.


Responsibilities include administering the museum pass program, compiling monthly reference, database, meeting room, and program statistics, and providing assistance to patrons in the use of library resources. Additional responsibilities include assisting in library collection development, library programs and events and preparing promotional materials, announcements, brochures, press releases and related materials as needed. This position also has a special focus as liaison to the Beech Street Senior Center, The Council on Aging, and other groups in town focused on seniors.


The Reference & Public Services Librarian works on the Reference Desk as part of the professional librarian staff. In addition, there are regular Saturday hours, generally scheduled every three weeks.


Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school with one year of reference and public library experience and knowledge of principles and practices of library work and use of library resources and information technology is required. Experience with social media and web content, as well as excellent written and communication skills, required. Experience with Adobe Illustrator, Canva, Microsoft Publisher or similar software preferred. Experience with Innovative preferred.


This is a full time 35 hour per week position covered under a collective bargaining agreement with the Belmont Librarian’s Association. The starting hourly rate is $30.703 and qualifies for the Town’s comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental and life insurance, paid vacation, sick, personal and holiday leave
