Youth Services Librarian, Newton Free Library, Newton, MA

Newton Free Library’s busy Youth Services Dept is composed of a children’s room and a tween/teen room, serving birth to age 18 and their caregivers and educators. This position assists our full-time children’s librarians in providing excellent customer service, programming, reference assistance, readers advisory and special project work as needed. Schedule: 10 hours per week, weekend hours.

This position will be focused on serving our teen and tween patrons, age 10-18 in our vibrant Teen Room. Interest in serving this age group is required and preference will be given to candidates who have experience serving this population.

Qualifications: Master of Science in Library Science (MLS) and experience serving tweens and teens in a library or school preferred. Applicants must possess a wide variety of computer skills, including familiarity with automated library systems, databases and common programs such a Word, Excel, etc. Strong skills in customer service, reader’s advisory and library programs preferred. Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team setting, work positively with diverse constituency and willingness to work on-call hours.

Hours: Every other Saturday. Sundays as needed.

Salary: $25.87/hour
