Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Countway Library is one of the largest biomedical libraries in the world. Countway serves the Harvard Longwood Campus including, Harvard Medical School (HMS), Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM) and the Harvard T.H. Chan Schoo of Public Health (HCSPH). Countway is seeking a part-time Safety Ambassador to work as a concierge to welcome our users into our recently renovated building. This position requires good customer service and communication skills. Principal duties and responsibilities include:

  • Greet users and assist with directions
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends
  • Assist with item check-out and return
  • Escort users to seats or lockers (for item pick-up)
  • Explain building policy information
  • Explain Ask a Librarian information
  • Point out cleaning kits to disinfect spaces
  • Conduct walkthroughs of building (floors 1, 2, L1 and L2)
  • Report violations to manager on site
  • Encourage compliance of all safety protocols
  • Assist custodial staff with cleaning previously occupied seats to ensure all seats are disinfected
  • Work closely with security to ensure safety protocols are adhered to
  • Present a positive attitude to all who enter the library

About the Francis A. Countway Library of Medicine:
The Countway Library was created by a 1960 agreement between Harvard University and the Boston Medical Library and the physical library came into existence in 1965. Countway houses the Center for the History of Medicine, the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Archives, the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health Archives, and the Warren Anatomical Museum. The mission of the Countway Library is to cultivate and advance education, research, scholarship and professional growth in the health and biomedical sciences by facilitating access to scholarly information and knowledge, preserving a historical record, and creating a stimulating and synergistic setting for intellectual growth.
