Emerging Technologies Librarian, Texas A&M International University (Killam Library), Laredo, TX

The Emerging Technologies Librarian, under general supervision, performs professional tasks in one or more functional areas within the Library. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Research, evaluate, recommend, test, and implement new technologies.
  • Provide leadership, coordination, and administration of RIO, Killam Library’s instance of Digital Commons.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate sustainable services and policies that support open access, preservation and broad dissemination of University research and data.
  • Plan, develop, troubleshoot, and coordinate digital tools, software and other library technology.
  • Provide support for the Killam Library’s OER initiatives in collaboration with faculty, staff and campus stakeholders.
  • Maintains knowledge of, and engages in, continuous professional development to keep up with trends in emerging technologies, digital tools and scholarly communication issues.
  • Develop strategies for collaboration, program planning, and support for interdisciplinary digital projects and initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison to the Office of Information Technology and other academic departments.
  • Teach and promote the library’s instructional program based on goals and strategies derived from professional library standards and frameworks for information literacy.
  • Attends meetings, participates in special projects and serves on committees relating to the library, the University, and consortia.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education – Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Experience – Two years of related experience in an academic library setting.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience implementing or managing digital repositories
  • Familiarity with scholarly communication, open access, and open education.
  • Experience facilitating instruction or workshops

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Digital collection management software and security.
  • Scholarly communications topics, trends, and technologies.
  • Information literacy practices, including familiarity with the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
  • Word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

Ability to:

  • Plan, organize and manage responsibilities
  • Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Interpersonal, customer service, presentation, and research skills.
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Interact effectively and professionally with the general public.
  • Use basic print and electronic reference tools.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.

Starting Salary: $52,800
