Visiting Assistant Librarian, Student Success

This is a twelve-month position reporting to the Director of Research, Instruction and Outreach.

The IU South Bend Libraries seek a Student Success Librarian to contribute to our growing instruction program and to further our commitment to student success.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Serve as a subject librarian to designated departments (Health Sciences & Social Sciences). Involves instruction, outreach, reference service, and collection development. Work with faculty to integrate information literacy into their course assignments for tagged courses (general education requirement).

Teaches two sections of Q110 Introduction to Information Literacy 1-credit course.

Collaborate with campus partners that support the first-year experience, and student success initiatives, to coordinate meaningful and welcoming activities that foster student engagement and a sense of belonging.

Develop outreach programming for undergraduate students, including study break programming during exams and orientation events.

Provides instruction, research assistance, and other reference services face-to-face and online, including evening and weekends.

Develops and maintains online research guides and other instructional materials.

Perform other, relevant duties as needed/required.

Requirements:

MLS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program. Master’s degree or equivalent must be awarded by August 30, 2021.

Demonstrated experience in reference and instruction services, preferably in an academic library.
