Day School Archives Project Planner (part-time), The Mandel Center for Studies in Jewish Education, Brandeis University Library, Waltham, MA

The Mandel Center for Studies in Jewish Education, a research center at Brandeis University, is embarking on
a digital humanities project, in conjunction with the Brandeis University Library, to document the history of
Jewish day schools in the North America. The goal of the Day School Archives Project is to create a partially
digital, partially paper archive with a dynamic website that is accessible to both scholars and the general
public. We are looking for a part-time research assistant to research and write an operational plan under the
guidance of the project leader. The research assistant will also work with the Project Leader on all aspects of
organizing the project, including researching funding possibilities and identifying a project manager. The
Project Leader will meet regularly with the research assistant and provide ongoing feedback. This is an
exciting opportunity for someone with excellent research, writing, organization, and interpersonal skills to
help shape this innovative project.


The expected effective date of the position in July 1, but there is some flexibility.

Responsibilities:
Work under the direction of the Project Leader
Write and present an operational plan
Gather data and conduct research activities, including planning, organizing, interviewing, library and online
research, and documentation
Write regular progress reports
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein


Desired Qualifications:
Proven interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
Demonstrated ability to analyze data
Organizational skills
A background demonstrating initiative, flexibility and a commitment to professional engagement and
continuous learning
An ability to work independently
Literacy in Google Drive and Microsoft Office
Academic preparation in a field of discipline relevant to the area of investigation
A background in library science, non-profit management or Jewish studies

Compensation: $20-25 per hour based on level of experience


Time: Flexible time 10-15 hours per week for 2-3 months (120 total hours)
