Project Description

The Muddy Water Initiative seeks a current or recent SLIS graduate student to carry out phase one of its digital archive project during Summer 2021, with the possibility of extension.  The Digital Archive Assistant will work with the Muddy Water Initiative team and SLIS faculty to develop a catalog of data and related publications about the Muddy River, available from a variety of local, state, federal, and private sources. Following this initial phase, additional work may include building a website for accessing these materials and curating data for inclusion in the future digital archive.

Qualifications

  • Current or recent SLIS graduate student, preferably from the Archives Management or CHI concentrations
  • Interest in scientific data and/or environmental science preferred
  • Experience working with and managing digital asset management systems
  • Understanding of best practices related to taxonomies and metadata
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail
  • Preferred courses taken: LIS 477, LIS 448, LIS 438, LIS532U

Modality

This position will be virtual for Summer 2021. Modality of work beyond this initial phase to be determined. 

Compensation

This position comes with a $3,000 stipend, representing a part-time commitment from June-August 2021.
