Salary: From $37,440.00 annually

This is a full-time position, approximately 40 hours per week. Candidates must be available to
work any hours the library branch is open, primarily Monday through Friday between 8:30am
and 5:00pm. As a condition of employment, work schedules may change as necessary to best
provide user services and to meet the Library’s responsibility to the citizens of Greene County.
This position requires an MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited institution or commensurate
experience. To be considered for this position TRANSCRIPTS MUST ACCOMPANY YOUR

Education and experience shall be evaluated with regard to recency and quality, as well as
quantity. Based on the number and quality of applicants, applications may be reviewed for
qualifications beyond the minimums stated herein.
Proof of United States Citizenship/Authorization to Work in the United States as established by
the Immigration Reform Act of 1986 is a condition of employment

Essential Functions
– Evaluation and selection of library materials according to the Materials Selection Policy
– Maintain/develop the library’s collection to reflect community needs
– Evaluate the Library system’s collections in assigned areas
– Review, select and order materials for those collections system-wide
– Respond to customer suggestions for purchase in assigned areas
– Manage budget for selection areas and recommend materials budget allocations to meet
the materials goals for the library system in assigned areas
– Select materials cost-effectively and assign them according to user and location needs
– Design and oversee weeding projects, replacement; redevelopment and specialized
collection development projects
– Maintenance of collection for specified areas including weeding, floating, list making and
replacements
– Lead projects related to collection services
– Assist in maintaining collection inventory
– Assist branches in maintaining collections
– Assist in planning, moving and installing collections in new or existing library branches
– Work with other departments and phone contact with other staff and public
– Good written communication
– Contribute to writing, updating, revising collection services policies, procedures and
communicating to staff for collection services topics
– Prepares and presents training classes related to Collection Services areas
– Make decisions on disposition of donated or gift materials in assigned areas
– Keep current on trends and format changes in materials
– Statistical analysis and evaluative reports of specified collections
– Public service desk duties as needed
– Contribute to system committees as assigned
– Assist Collection Services Manager in department functions
– Assists in other department duties as assigned
– Interprets and implements the Library’s General Conduct Policy
– Timeliness: The employee must be punctual and timely in arriving to work and completing
tasks. The employee must also be capable of working all of the hours in their assigned
shift.
– Ability to work with others and the general public: It is essential that individual who works in
this position have the ability to work and interact in a cooperative, pleasant, and
constructive manner with others.

Skills/Job Knowledge
– Excellent communication skills, oral and written
– Ability to interact pleasantly, constructively and cooperatively with library patrons and
staff
– Thorough knowledge of library policies
– Computer and keyboard skills, ability to type 35 wpm
Education/Experience
– MLS or MLIS degree
– Library experience
– Selector experience preferred
Contact
– Close contact within department and with sales representatives of various suppliers
– Works closely with other departments
– Routine telephone contact with patrons and system staff
Supervision
– Supervised by the Collection Services Manager
Physical Demands
– Performs bending, squatting, kneeling and reaching from floor level to 6 feet in height
– Routine lifting of library materials weighing up to 30 lbs.
– Displays good coordination and mobility
Working Environment
– Primarily indoors with heating and cooling regulated in a general library environment
Miscellaneous Requirements
– Must pass a security background check
