The Patten Free Library, located in Bath, Maine, is a private non-profit library that serves the City of Bath and the Towns of Arrowsic, Georgetown, West Bath, and Woolwich.  (Total population served is 14,932.)

General Description:  Under the direction of the Assistant Director, this professional-level salaried position supports the Patten Free Library’s mission to transform lives, inspire lifelong learning, and build community by creating and managing innovative, educational programs for adults and young adults, overseeing the Library’s public communications, and supporting the Library’s outreach efforts. The Programming & Outreach Manager also works with Department Heads to support their programming and outreach activities. 

Responsibilities: 

●      Initiates, plans, coordinates, promotes, conducts, attends, and evaluates a variety of programs for adults and young adults.  

●      Collaborates with the Development Director, Head of Children’s Services, Archivist & Special Collections Librarian, and other staff to help promote, support, and coordinate programming and outreach efforts.

●      Develops and implements a mission-driven communications strategy.

●      Develops and coordinates with the Development Director and other Department Heads on content and messaging for the Library’s social media and WordPress website.

●      Manage the content, editing, and scheduling of the weekly electronic newsletter in cooperation with library staff and Department Heads.

●      Cultivates connections with community groups, schools, local businesses, and other libraries to advance library outreach opportunities and cultivate and create partnerships.

●      Manages Community Room reservations calendar.

●      Participates and cooperates with library staff and the Director in achieving the mission and goals of the Library.

●      Participates in Library fundraising activities.

●      Attends professional meetings, workshops, and conferences.

●      Works nights and weekends as needed to support programming and outreach events.

Qualifications:  

●      Bachelor’s Degree.

●      Experience generating and implementing creative, outside-the-box public programs.

●      Experience with video conferencing technology, online video and audio creation tools, Canva, and photography skills.

●      Experience using social media for promotional/marketing purposes.

●      Experience with WordPress or similar web editing platforms. Experience with html is a plus.

●      Strong verbal and writing skills.

●      Ability to self-motivate and work independently.

●      Ability to be a team player and to work well collaboratively with library staff and community members.

Physical Demands:

Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position: standing, lifting, bending, pushing, and walking; sufficient manual dexterity to use a computer.

Conditions of Employment: Some evening and weekend hours required.
