The Town of Orono is accepting applications for the position of Youth Services Librarian. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field, experience working with children, and previous library experience is required. The Town of Orono is seeking qualified, creative, organized, flexible, and personable applicants for the full-time position of Youth Services Librarian.  

This position performs various responsibilities including, but not limited to:   

  • readers’ advisory, reference, and other professional library services to youth and their caregivers;  
  • plans and presents programs for youth, ages toddler to teen;  
  • supports literacy learning for youth and their families;  
  • evaluates and develops youth collections and programming resources;  
  • works with a small library team;  
  • participates in collaborative efforts with other town departments and area organizations.  

Qualifications for this position include the requirement of a Bachelor’s degree in a field related to literacy and activities for children, (e.g. Library Science, Education,Child Development), at least one year of library experience and/or working with children. 

The Orono Public Library has met the challenge of the pandemic by introducing curbside pickup and virtual programs. In Mid-May, limited in-person services will be reintroduced, contingent on pandemic conditions and CDC guidance. The Orono Town Council has been supportive of the Library’s approach to safely providing services during this unusual time.
