Reference Librarian – Part Time, Bedford Public Library, Bedford, New Hampshire

SALARY: $20.79 – $30.19 per hour


TYPICAL DUTIES:
The Bedford Public Library seeks a friendly, professional librarian to work part time at our busy reference
desk and assist with young adult services, including programs. The Library is currently open to the public
38 hours per week and will expand public hours when conditions permit. The responsibilities of this
position include, but are not limited to:
– Assists patrons of all ages with print and electronic resources, including online
databases, the Polaris online catalog, and the Library’s eBook services.
– Provides readers advisory.
– Assists patrons with interlibrary loans.
– Participates in collection development.
– Participates in marketing, including social media
– Works with reference librarians to create and implement programs and events for
young adults (virtually, then in person when conditions permit)
– Young adult outreach to Bedford High School


The part-time position will require 20-25 hours per week, including one night per week and
Saturdays/Sundays in a rotation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must have proficiency with technology, including social media, tablet computers, eBook
readers, virtual meeting platforms, and Microsoft Office. Knowledge of the Polaris ILS is helpful.
Applicants must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and sensitively
when responding to patron queries. The ability to multitask and complete long-term tasks, while
responding to queries at the Reference Desk, is essential. Knowledge of young adult literature and
experience developing programs for, and serving, high school age library users is helpful. MLS or MLS
candidate who has completed their reference coursework is preferred.
