In-person Zine Collection Internship Program, Watertown Free Public Library, Watertown, MA (closed)

Description:

Creating a Zine Collection

This internship experience for a current Simmons Library School student will expose them to the numerous facets that go along with developing and promoting a new library collection.  Supervised by the Zine Collection Project manager, the intern will participate in:

  • collection development,
  • creating processing workflows,
  • identifying vendors,
  • cataloging zines, and
  • ultimately finding ways to promote the collection when it is unveiled this fall.

This is an opportunity for a current student who has completed the required core SLIS courses (LIS 407, 415, 488), and has an appreciation of zines or an interest in learning more about the medium.   Students who have also completed LIS 453 (Collection Development and Management) and an interest in public librarianship are encouraged to apply.

This is an unpaid/volunteer internship which meets the requirements of LIS 512.  If you are unsure of your eligibility for LIS 512, please reach out to Prof. Sarah Pratt ([email protected]). However, enrollment in LIS 512 is not required to be eligible for this project.

This internship experience is in person and thus dependent on COVID safety protocols.

The student will be expected to work 15 hours a week, Monday through Friday between  9 am and 9 pm, the hours to be determined. The internship runs between June 1 and August 11.
