The Chesterfield Public Library, located in the heart of historic Chesterfield, NH, is looking for an energetic, collaborative Library Director with a passion for public service. Working closely with the Board of Trustees, the Director oversees and monitors all library operations, including budgeting, personnel management, and facilities management. The Director should be an ambassador for the library, highlighting its successes and communicating its needs.

Having recently completed significant interior renovations, the Chesterfield Library is poised to move forward with robust community programming and innovative services to meet community needs. Having reopened to the public in April 2021, the Library seeks an innovative leader who can guide the organization toward a post Covid world and balance the need for both virtual and in-person services and resources.

This is a full-time, benefited position; 35 hours per week includes some evening and weekend hours. The salary range is $37,000.00 – $39,000.00, commensurate with experience. For more information, please see the websites for the Library and the Town of Chesterfield:

Responsibilities: The Director is responsible to the Board of Trustees for the administration and operation of the Library. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: developing, recommending and monitoring the annual operating budget in conjunction with the Assistant Director; hiring and developing employees; participating in professional associations appropriate to the library and the community; engaging community agencies and the local school; reporting to the Board of Trustees; provides support and advice to Friends of the Library; stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of public library administration and services; grant awareness and writing; and long range planning, goal setting, and policy development related to Library services, personnel and facility issues. Additionally, the Director participates in collection development activities and provides reference and circulation services.

Qualifications: Minimum requirements include a bachelor’s degree in library and information science or a related field and three to five years of progressive library experience. A master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program is preferred.

Essential skills include: interpreting community needs and interests; meeting and maintaining the public’s confidence; demonstrating excellent communication skills (written, spoken, and listening) and positive interpersonal skills; planning effective public service and guiding the efforts of all employees to support the Library’s mission and vision; demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of library services; supervising others, acting independently and showing good judgment; and demonstrating knowledge of current library technology. Governing board experience is preferred.
