Academic Technology Specialist, Simmons University, Boston, MA

This is a student-worker position at Simmons University in The College of Organizational, Computational, and Information Sciences.

COCIS Academic Technology provides technology support to the College of Organizational, Computational and Information Sciences (COCIS) and is seeking to hire an Academic Technology Specialist (ATS). An ATS provides technical support to students, faculty, and staff while also supporting technology lab operations. They will work collaboratively with the COCIS Academic Technology Manager, The Dean’s Fellow for Information Technology, and other ATS staff.

The ATS will assist with troubleshooting software and hardware issues, respond to patron requests in-person, by phone, or email, and manage tech lab operations.  Additionally, the ATS will have the opportunity to lead student group workshops and co-curricular events to augment student learning. Lab operations include maintaining lab and events schedules, loaning equipment, and liaising with the Simmons Technology Service Desk.

Ideal candidates will have flexible schedules, a friendly disposition, and an interest in providing excellent technical customer service to our patrons.

Required Skills:

  • Familiarity with troubleshooting computer software and hardware, and enjoy problem-solving.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills and a willingness to provide group and one-on-one instruction.
  • Enjoy working with a service-oriented, technically adept support team.

Prefered Skills:

  • Open-source software, such as Drupal and WordPress.
  • Web design/development.
  • Linux/Command Line.
  • Python/HTML/XML.
  • Digital Library/Archival platforms such as Omeka and ArchivesSpace.
  • 3D printing, Raspberry Pis and other makerspace technologies.
