Statement of the Job:

To support the instructional, research, scholarship, creative activity, and public service missions of the University of Maine by providing information literacy instruction and design assistance, reference service, research assistance, and collection development. To participate in fostering learner success, to assist with creating and innovating for Maine and beyond, and to help grow and steward partnerships. Typical hiring range for this position is $42,500 to $49,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

This is an opportunity to join a dynamic team at Fogler Library at the University of Maine, the Flagship campus of the University of Maine System.  Located in Orono, in the heart of the beautiful State of Maine, this land, sea and space grant public university is at the forefront of research with state, national and international impacts. This position offers the opportunity to advance faculty and student research at Maine’s largest library.

This Business Reference Librarian position will serve as the liaison librarian to Business and Economics, as well as some other disciplines.  This position also serves as Fogler’s Patent & Trademark Resource Center representative.

As a member of the Reference & Information Literacy Department, they will also be part of a team providing in-person and online general reference service, as well as information literacy instruction, both credit-bearing and course specific. The position also allows opportunities to participate in campus and state-wide committees.

The successful candidate will have experience with reference service, evidence of information literacy instruction experience, experience creating web guides and/or tutorials, a clear understanding of the information needs of the members of a university community, and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.  Experience with Patent and Trademark research is also preferred.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Reference Service experience at an academic level
  • Evidence of information literacy instruction experience
  • Experience creating web guides and/or tutorials
  • Clear understanding of the information needs of the members of a university community
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Preferred:

  • Subject experience with business resources
  • Patent and trademark reference experience
  • Collection development experience
