Assistant Professor of Professional Practice, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA

The School of Library & Information Science announces the availability of a full-time Assistant Professor of Professional Practice position to teach graduate courses in library & information science with a focus in librarianship. The candidate will have a commitment to teaching excellence and service to the profession. This is a 12-month appointment starting July 2021, and may be renewed annually. Multiple year appointments are available upon successful evaluation of the first year. Relocation to Baton Rouge is not required for this position.

Minimum Qualifications:  Earned MLIS or equivalent degree in Library & Information Science. Experience teaching university graduate-level courses online.

Preferred Qualifications:  Earned PhD degree in Library & Information Science or in related area. Experience teaching university LIS graduate-level courses online.

Responsibilities: 

The AP-PP appointment is for 80% teaching and 20% service as described below: 

80% Teaching: Teach online graduate courses through LSU Online to support the Online Master of Library and Information Science degree. The teaching load is ten (10) course per calendar year divided into the following: two (2) courses in each of the 7-week Fall and Spring terms (Fall 1, Fall 2, Spring 1, Spring 2) and one (1) course in each of the 5-week Summer terms (Summer 1, Summer 2).

20% Service and Fieldwork: Provide advising to students; supervise student internships; serve on appropriate School, College, University, and Professional committees; and fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the Director.

The School and College: The School of Library & Information Science is part of the College of Human Sciences & Education (CHSE), along with the School of Education, the School of Leadership & Human Resource Development, the School of Kinesiology, the School of Social work, the University Laboratory School, and the Early Childhood Education Laboratory Preschool. These combined schools offer eight undergraduate degree programs, 20 graduate programs, and seven online graduate degree and/or certificate programs. CHSE’s current enrollment includes approximately 1,800 undergraduates and more than 1,900 graduate students. The School of Library & Information Science is a member of the iSchools Consortium. It offers entirely asynchronous online graduate and undergraduate programs including the Master in Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree and Graduate Certificates in Archival Studies, Records and Information Management, and School Librarianship. SLIS also offers an undergraduate minor in Digital Studies and several undergraduate general education courses.
