Technical Services Librarian, Westfield Athenaeum, Westfield, MA

The Westfield Athenaeum is seeking a Technical Services Librarian, who will be responsible for data entry, copy cataloging, and record maintenance of physical and digital materials under the supervision of the Cataloger and Head of Adult Services. 

This position will perform copy cataloging, search OCLC for records, reach out to the Cat Center with catalog requests, attend Technical Services Roundtable Meetings, unpack boxes, and verify shipments of materials. In the absence of a technical services assistant, this position will create spine labels, assist in buffing damaged CD/DVD discs, process adult, juvenile, and young adult materials, and maintain and check-in periodical collection.

This position will also cover public service desks as needed. Position may order a collection, and will participate in collection development and maintenance activities. May participate in special projects in department, and other duties as assigned. This is an in-person position that requires consistent contact with the public, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Salary is grade 3 Union Position, starting salary of $19.51/hr, fully benefited. Position is 37.5 hours a week, with some evening hours and a Saturday rotation required.

Qualifications:

Recommended Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required. Two or more years of library experience in technical services or experience with data entry is strongly preferred. MLS or enrollment in an accredited MLS program is preferred but not required. 

Requires understanding of Dewey Decimal Classification System, Evergreen (or other ILS system), OCLC, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and GSuite required, with proficiency in other database management programs a plus. Ability to operate a personal computer, work quickly and accurately with attention to detail, bend and lift loads up to 25 lbs, and stand for at least one hour.
