Booth Library on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois, will hire a temporary civil service employee (intern) for a grant-funded, nine-month position from March-December 2021.
The employee will oversee “Creating a Community Technology Center in Southeast Illinois,” a grant program funded by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Development’s Broadband READY initiative. The program will focus on digital literacy, public service and information literacy instruction in rural areas of Illinois, with a goal of helping to bridge the digital divide. Through Booth Library’s Center for Student Innovation, representatives from partner libraries throughout the region, as well as local high school students, will visit the CSI to complete digital literacy training. These certified instructors will then teach basic computing and information literacy workshops in their host communities. In addition, current K-12 teachers in the Charleston, Illinois, Community Unit School District will complete digital literacy training to enhance the use of technology and encourage digital literacy curriculum in their classrooms.
The employee will coordinate the training sessions at Booth Library and workshops in the various communities, help to create information literacy curriculum, and oversee the certification of trainers. The employee also will work directly with reference librarians at Booth Library, and library staff at community colleges and public libraries in the East Central Illinois region to coordinate and complete the various aspects of the grant program, including grant reports and regular administrative updates.
The internship is over the course of 9 moth. Salary is $2000 per month.
Eligibility:
Candidate must be currently attending or is a recent graduate of an accredited, master’s degree-level library school, pursuing or having earned a library sciences degree, or an equivalent degree in the areas of digital media, technology, digital literacy, etc. Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel throughout the Southeast Illinois region. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and experience promoting inclusive excellence is required.
