Illinois Wesleyan University’s The Ames Library invites applications for a tenure-line 12-month faculty position as Online Learning Librarian.

IWU is a nationally ranked, fully accredited undergraduate university with 1650 students that provides the highest quality liberal arts education. The Ames Library offers a learning environment that is conducive to interaction, consultation, study, and reflection, and is dedicated to serving the scholarly needs of the Illinois Wesleyan University community. Opened in 2002, the library holds a diverse and strong print and digital collection and several media studios for students and faculty. Collocated within the library are three of our partners: the Writing Center, the Center for Engaged Learning, and members of Information Technology Services. Each library faculty member at The Ames Library is responsible for liaison work with assigned departments, as well as a functional area that serves both the library and campus to achieve scholarly and artistic goals. The library faculty are highly collaborative and committed to student learning in all forms.

The responsibilities of this full-time position include the following:

  • Collaborate on the design and assessment of online learning modules and tutorials that develop students’ knowledge of and expertise in library resources and that enhance students’ research experiences.
  • Explore opportunities to further integrate library resources into the curriculum and/or into experiential learning opportunities with relevant campus partners.
  • Create workshops and other learning opportunities for students to experiment and gain facility with media studios, working in collaboration with Information Technology Services staff.
  • Keep abreast of developments in instructional design and technology as it pertains to academic libraries and undergraduate students.
  • Collaborate with faculty to teach information discovery, appropriate use of scholarly literature, source evaluation, intellectual property concepts, and academic integrity, both face to face and online, in assigned liaison areas.
  • Develop both print and electronic collections in assigned liaison areas.
  • Support faculty teaching and research through active liaison librarianship.
  • General awareness of trends in scholarly communication.
  • Participate in Gateway instruction, on call/consultation hours, diversity and equity work, outreach efforts, and other library projects as assigned.
  • Fulfill campus and professional service responsibilities as outlined in the Faculty Handbook.
