Director of Strategic Partnerships, Boston Public Library, Boston, MA

Description:

The Boston Public Library is primarily a city agency but also a separately incorporated non-profit organization. The Library relies on successful partnerships, especially with its philanthropic affiliates, for the accomplishment of its mission and for critical financial support.  This position will focus on supporting the mission of the Library by ensuring the success of its philanthropic relationships, key named organizational partnerships, and a culture of external collaboration.  The position will also assume responsibility for working with philanthropic partners, funders and internal and external stakeholders to identify and respond to grant opportunities, in coordination with the BPL Fund.

Under the direction of the President, and in coordination with the Director of Library Services and Chief of Collections, this position will coordinate activities based on the Library’s philanthropic priorities, maintain and strengthen current named key partnerships and support the Boston Public Library Fund and the President in building new relationships to advance the Library’s strategic goals.  This may include planning, building and management of relationships with external funders, and key named partners.  The role may manage named relationships and key initiatives directly or support those library departments that work with partners, all in concert with institutional goals and programmatic capacity, and with or at the direction and request of library leadership.

The position plays a key role in the development and execution of the Library’s philanthropic strategy. This role provides oversight, guidance and support, as appropriate, to key library affiliates, in conjunction with the BPL Fund, and to named partners-in-residence, and to named cultural and programming partners in support of the designated key liaison for each partner relationship. The role also assists in the maintenance of institutional relationships in the governmental space, at the municipal, state and federal level, as well as named peer institutions, as assigned.

A background in philanthropy or development, large complex organizations, non-profit leadership and knowledge of urban libraries are desired for this position.  An ability to understand and communicate the Library’s mission and priorities is essential. Experience operating across, understanding of and a commitment to the diversity of Boston’s communities and neighborhoods and addressing inequities is also strongly desired.

This is a full-time position. Salary is between $91,882.07 – $124,028.00, depending on experience.
