Library Director, Pine Manor College Chestnut Hill, MA

The Library Director’s purpose is to grow the graduation rate and support the growth of Pine Manor College students by providing innovative and collaborative leadership of the library that increases student success. Leads the library in serving the PMC community and through the transitioning of the Pine Manor College archives to Boston College which will serve as its institution of record after a two-year teach out period. Supervises day-to-day operations, oversees library collections and budget, and promotes the mission and programs of the library. An ideal candidate will bring a vision of the future of progressive learning in libraries. The director will champion the creation and adoption of digital and open educational resources to meet our culturally and socioeconomically diverse student body where they are. The library promotes diversity and inclusion, and seeks candidates committed to equity and justice.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Establishes realistic library goals, policies, priorities and procedures for the two-year transition from Pine Manor College to Boston College.
  • Champions digital literacy and the creation and adoption of open education resources.
  • Follows through in supervising and implementing the Diversity & Inclusion audit of print resources within collection.
  • Plans the future of the print collection in the context of PMC’s values and mission.  
  • Collaborates with faculty to develop effective library services to best support students, curriculum and community.
  • Participates in faculty governance, attends faculty meetings.
  • Acts as advocate for the library with administration and staff.
  • Coordinates with the Academic Affairs Support Services Team (Accessibility Service Office, Career Development Office, Information Technology, Learning Resource Center), to support success initiatives. 
  • Maintains responsibility for Library budget.
  • Provides staff with regular informal and formal staff evaluation in accordance with established College procedure.
  • Provides leadership for Access Services and Reference Instruction departments.
  • Conducts project management and mentoring of staff .
  • Annually reviews vendor agreements and negotiates contracts for digital resources and databases.
  • Conducts and oversees maintenance of Library website. 
  • Provides public relations for the Library within and beyond the Pine Manor Community.

Other Duties:

  • Provides leadership for and participates with staff in routine library functions as necessary.
  • Serves on committees of the college or Minuteman Library Network as appointed or elected.
  • Engages in scholarly and professional development opportunities to support diversity, inclusion and equity initiatives. 
  • Collaborates with the Assistant Dean for Faculty Development & Teaching Excellence in promotion of the scholarship of teaching & learning.

Required Qualifications:

  • MLS/MLIS from an accredited program required.
  • 7 years experience in a library setting.  
  • 2 years management and organizational leadership experience in a library.
  • Knowledge of library trends and standards, including critical pedagogy, instructional design, and instructional technology. 
  • Experience working with patrons from diverse backgrounds, many of whom are first in their families to attend college and/or international students.
  • Experience with current electronic resources and programs, and comfort with digital literacy and emerging technologies are imperative. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strategic or long-range planning experience.
  • Experience in a role overseeing transition.
  • Academic library management experience.
