Subject Liaison Librarian for Economics, Finance and Related Data, Boston College, Chestnut, MA

Description:

Boston College seeks a subject liaison librarian for Economics, Finance and Related Data. This position may also serve as Interim Business Liaison until that position is filled. The position calls for a creative, collaborative, user-centered approach to collections, instruction and digital scholarship to serve Economics, the largest major in the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences, as well as Finance, a dynamic department housed in the Carroll School of Business, one of the top-ranked business programs in the country.

This position is the primary liaison to the faculty, graduate and undergraduate students in these two departments for all library-related needs: apprising faculty of new materials, evolving services and research tools, as well as identifying and recommending innovative uses of technology for collecting, organizing, managing, storing and disseminating such information. Builds and maintains web pages and research guides to promote and facilitate access to library and appropriate collections, ensuring that all scholarly research needs are met and appropriate tools and methods are integrated into the Libraries’ wider applications of digital pedagogy. Provides innovative instructional services including virtual reference, consultations, in-person classes, online subject guides, and other instructional materials in support of the data. Given the numerical data components of these disciplines, facility with data analysis tools, data management and other work related to data support will be important.  Brings a strong understanding of the evolving digital scholarship trends and developments in higher education, particularly as applied to these fields with their particular data needs.  This position also requires awareness of the challenges of collection development inherent in managing economics/business resources. Consults with faculty in these departments on an ongoing basis, formally and informally, regarding their evolving research and teaching support needs. Participates in faculty meetings, as necessary, colloquia, and task forces as an integrated resource for the department.

Boston College Libraries subject liaisons work within a cohort organization managed and supported jointly by the Head of Collection Development, the Head of Digital Scholarship, and the Head of Educational Initiatives, and are expected to be fully engaged in each of these areas.  The Cohort Model has been created to leverage this high level of support in the three areas of expertise, as well as to foster a high level of collaborative work across the liaison group.  At the same time, liaisons are given a high level of freedom to take initiative and work independently in support of their disciplinary assignments.
