Assistant Director/Adult Services Librarian, Walpole Public Library, Walpole, MA

The Walpole Public Library seeks an experienced, organized professional for the position of Assistant Director.  Though duties may vary greatly with the various events and needs, general responsibilities are as follows:

  • Manage library operations and facility in the absence of the director: including supervising staff, running staff meetings if needed, and attending library board meetings. 
  •  Promoting the collection and resources of the library through programs, media, and public awareness campaigns. 
  • Assist Director in formulation of library goals, policies and procedures. 
  • Participate in personnel selection, training, and supervision. 
  • Handle patron issues or concerns as needed. 
  • Make recommendations for improvements in services and collection. 
  • Keep informed of library development trends and participate in activities of professional development. 
  • Perform cataloging and collection maintenance work.  Book events in the meeting room spaces.
  •   Assist art committee and Friends of the Library groups as needed. 
  • Create monthly event calendars and content for social media, local newspaper, and newsletters. 
  • Assist with troubleshooting and scheduling maintenance for library building as needed. 
  • Create monthly events and programs for adults.
  • Other duties as required.

The successful candidate should be able to work independently, possess strong communication skills, and have a creative approach to library services.  Work schedule includes one evening and every fourth Saturday. This is a full-time position. Anticipated hiring range $67,386 – $88,914, DOQ, plus benefits.
