The Libraries of Foster’s Board of Trustees is seeking a creative, energetic, and forward-thinking person to serve as Executive Director of Library Services.  The Director works with staff and volunteers to provide comprehensive library services to the community of Foster, a small town in northwestern Rhode Island. The Libraries of Foster is a private, nonprofit organization currently housed in two historic buildings and governed by a seven-member board.  The position is ideal for a library professional who has the vision to meet the evolving needs of our rural community. The library board is in the process of planning and building a new, centrally-located library, and the successful candidate will possess the leadership skills necessary to work with members of the community, library trustees, and local officials to steward this project to its completion.  

The Director supervises a regular nine-member staff and coordinates the activities of volunteers in the provision of daily library services to Foster and its local elementary school.  The Director participates in local and regional professional communities.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in library/information science.
  • Three years of professional library experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with library operations and library-related technology and digital services.
  • Ability to articulate a vision of library services in the 21st Century.
  • Strong written and oral interpersonal and communication skills.

Other Information:

The successful candidate will have experience managing library services, planning budgets, and working with library trustees and the community.  Candidates experienced in grant writing, fundraising, and/or project management are strongly encouraged to apply. The Executive Director of the Libraries of Foster is a full-time position with an annual salary of $46,145, and as such is eligible for health benefits and a Simple IRA plan.
